CONGRATULATIONS! What a wonderful fete!

THANK YOU AND WELL DONE

The 2011 Fete is over, but what a HUGE success! THANK YOU to all the wonderful students and parents who helped out today. It would have been IMPOSSIBLE without you!

It was such a pleasure to be able to see everyone working together in SUGAR RUSH LANE with the sole purpose of improving our fantastic school!

Once again, thank you to EVERYONE involved, who both worked on the day, in preparation and with donations of prizes, drinks and everything else!

Please have a look at the photos below and comment and LEAVE A COMMENT about the Fete! What was the best thing about the 2011 Harmony School Fete?

FETE HELPERS

FETE HELPERS

Below is the final timetable for helping out on Sunday for those who are able to. Please check it carefully as some people have been listed twice (especially students).
Please be at the stall at the allocated time so that others can either move to their next ‘job’ or see the rest of the fete.
If your job involves handling drinks or food please read the following ‘rules’ in order to fit in with the City of Cockburn- Guidelines for Temporary Food Premises.
– Have hair adequately covered
– Wear disposable gloves (will be provided) or use utensils
– One person only to touch lollies. Do not handle both money and lollies.
– Wash hands before handling food.
If you have any questions, please contact me as soon as possible via email or the blog.

FETE 2011- WE NEED YOU!

We need YOU!

We are in the homeward run towards the Harmony Fete next Sunday and we need your help!

We are seeking parent and student volunteers to help out across SUGAR RUSH LANE!

We need people for the following jobs-

Ticket Booth- Parents

Prizes Booth- Parents

Drinks Stall- Parents or students

Mini Golf- Parents or students

Balloon Darts- Parents or students

Ten Pin Bowling- Parents or students

Nail Art- Creative Parents

Setting up- Parents or students

How will it work?

We have HEAPS of students who want to help out, but obviously they need parents to allow them to do this. We will put out a note on Monday, BUT if your child can help out at any time you can let us know beforehand via email or the blog.

We need something written on the blog, email or letter for students to help out (as students sometimes volunteer themselves without consulting parents).

We also need parents for jobs involving money and prizes especially.

We will break the day into hour time periods. This will allow parents or students to help out for this time but still enjoy the rest of the Fete.

The times are as follows-

8:00-10:00am (Setting up- Students would be of great help for this)

10:00-11:00am

11:00-12:00pm

12:00-1:00pm

1:00-2:00pm

2:00-3:00pm

3:00-4:00pm

4:00pm (Packing up- Students would be of great help for this)

Although we know we will need flexibility on the day, we hope to have a timetable of jobs set up by Tuesday or Wednesday next week, and so your prompt response would be of great assistance.

THANK YOU to those who have already volunteered, your names are already on our list.

Finally, we are also in desperate need of Cool Drink (any type) to sell at our drinks stall! We have less than 50 cans so far and would like to get past 500 (6 cans a student!)!

Thank you all for your help to hopefully make this a successful event!

MATHS

There is no set maths task this week but students should be doing at least an hour on Mathletics throughout the space of a week.

READING

Students should be reading their Lexile Book (or another if necessary) for 20-30 minutes a night.

THANK YOU!

Parent Open Night

I just wanted to thank everyone who turned up for the Parent Open Night last night.

It was GREAT to see so many parents and families attending and the students appreciated it. I hope everyone was able to get something out of it!

Please feel welcome to come in at any point to see your child’s work or to have a chat.

PARENT OPEN NIGHT!

Hi all,

This is a quick reminder that the Parent Open Night is on TOMORROW (Tuesday) from 5:30-7:00pm.

All families are encouraged to attend so that your child can take you through some of the work they have done this year. While it is not a session for formal interviews, parents may wish to schedule appointments if they have any concerns or questions regarding their child’s progress.

Students will be asked to show you through their workbooks as well as examples of work they are most ‘proud’ of. While your attendance is not ‘compulsory’ it gives students great pride to be able to show their year’s achievements.

SCHOLASTIC LEXILE INFORMATION

Scholastic Lexile

 What’s it about?

The Lexile Framework for Reading is an educational tool that uses a measure called a Lexile to match readers of all ages with books, articles and other leveled reading resources.

So what?

Earlier in the term all students in Year 5/6 sat an online test. This gave them a lexile score which can range from 0-1000+.

With this information students are to select ‘lexile books’ from the library that are of a similar number to that of their score.

Some books may appear ‘easier’ than your child’s capabilities and some may appear ‘harder’. The school does not set the scores of the books.

ALL STUDENTS SHOULD BE READING 20 MINUTES EVERY DAY WHEN POSSIBLE.

 What next?

Once students have completed their book they log into the Scholastic Lexile Website (Below) and complete a short quiz on the book they have read.

After they have completed THREE books their score may change, either up or down.

Students then get another book from within their range.

PLEASE NOTE

Your assistance in this process is paramount. Students should be reading at home and this program is an essential part of their learning and development.

Please encourage students to read the book they have from the library and complete the test when finished.

Please help your child remember that our library day is FRIDAY, and they should be returning or renewing their book on this day.
