This term, we will be writing reports on different countries in Asia. Asia is a very important region of the world for Australia, as we do a lot of our trading and holidaying in these countries.

Today we watched a YouTube clip which listed all the countries in Asia.

  4. FACTS ABOUT CAMBODIA

    1. The Cambodian flag is the only national flag that has an image of a building – the Angkor Wat.

    2. Cambodia has been changing its name whenever a new government was installed: It was called the Khmer Republic during its republican years, Democratic Kampuchea under the Khmer Rouge regime, and People’s Republic of Kampuchea under the leftist group called Salvation Front. Today, in its latest government form, it is officially called the Kingdom of Cambodia.

    3. During the four-year rule of the Khmer Rouge, one-fifth of Cambodia’s population was killed. They were mostly educated people, priests, and monks.

    4. Khmer Rouge leader Pol Pot wanted all educated Cambodians dead so that nobody would oppose their rule.

    5. Half of Cambodia’s current population is younger than 15 years old.

    6. Traditionally, birthdays are not celebrated in Cambodia. Older people might not even know their birthdays.

    7. In recent times, the country’s biggest source of income has been the textile industry. The second largest source of Cambodian income is tourism.

    8. Cambodia has one of the highest deforestation rates in the world. Between the years 1990 and 2005, the country has lost 25,000 square kilometers of forest! WOW

    9. It’s considered disrespectful to let your feet or soles to point at people or things, so the feet must be tucked in when sitting.

  7. I’m doing The Philippines and I found 3 facts and they are:

Indas has thousands of gods and they can be really weird, a common one that they worship is budah, there is also one called the Pillaiyar which is a lady with an over weight body with 4 hands and a head of an elephant with a crown sitting on a throne. They think that their gods will give them good luck.

  12. My Interesting Fact About Indonesia is:

    Badminton and Soccer are two sports Indonesia love to play, but it is a huge problem because of the amount of illegal betting!

  13. Thailand has a land border with 4 countries including Myanmar (formerly Burma), Laos, Cambodia and Malaysia.
    Bangkok is the largest city and the capital of Thailand .
    Bangkok’s full ceremonial name is Krungthepmahanakhon Amonrattanakosin Mahintharayutthaya Mahadilokphop Noppharatratchathaniburirom Udomratchaniwetmahasathan Amonphimanawatansathit Sakkathattiyawitsanukamprasit which is the longest place name (that has spaces) in the world.

  16. My laptop is not letting me look at the Asian Countries youtube video but I know/remember that there is these countries:

    Philippines, India, China, Indonesia, Pakistan, Japan, Korea, The Maldives, Thailand, Malaysia and Nepal.

    My Intersecting facts for my countries the Philippines are:

    The Philippines has 7 107 islands that equal about 300 000 square kilometres (11 187 square miles).

    Manila, Philippines capital, population is 1 660 714 and area of 38.55 kilometres2.

    July 4 1946, Philippines was established.

    The Philippines has 175 languages, 171 languages are still spoken today with 4 are not spoken today.

    The Philippines are the only country in the world that when their country is at war they turn the the flag up side down.

    Karaoke was invented in the Philippines not in Japan.

    In the Philippines islands earthquakes are common and active volcanoes.
