Cork / Wooden Reindeer

Reindeer Construction

As we head into Christmas, I would like to construct wooden reindeer in class. In order to be able to do this, I need your help!

To make these reindeer (see pictures) we need wooden logs (diameter 5cm max) or corks (for miniature reindeer). The wood needs to be 5-10cm long (depending on how big you want the body of the reindeer.

CORKS WOULD BE IDEAL!

We can do all the cutting and drilling at school, so as long as we have the wood we should be able to give it a go! We will find all the sticks we need around the school.

If you have anything helpful at home, please bring it in this week so we can give it a try!

CLASS ELECTION

CLASS LEADER

This term we have been looking at Government and how it is formed.

We are going to have a class election, with the winner to take the class for an activity of their choice, for a period of one hour.

Over the next couple of days we will form parties within the class, and run an election campaign. We will have speeches, posters, how to vote cards and anything else to get the voters onside!

If you would like to be considered for one of our party leaders, you must let me know tomorrow.

You must include:

Your name, activity planned and a brief overview or description of your activity. This may be changed later.

As we discussed in class, you must be well organised, can run a small group, confident and responsible, have sensible (BUT FUN!) ideas, team skills, leadership skills and be prepared to lose an election (and join in the rest of the fun!).

If you have any great ideas, add them below!

Ballad Homework

BALLADS (Narrative Poems)

Ballads, or Narrative Poems, are poems that tell a story.
We have looked at “The Highwayman” this term, and have covered it in great depth.

Some ballads are in song form, while others stay as poems.

We will be discussing famous poet Banjo Patterson’s ‘Man from Snowy River’ tomorrow.

You can ‘watch’ the poem on Youtube below (we will also be watching it in class)

HOMEWORK

This term we have not had a lot of homework, but this is IMPORTANT.

FIND A BALLAD THAT YOU LIKE AND BRING IT TO SCHOOL!

– IT CAN BE A SONG, BUSH BALLAD, AUSTRALIA BALLAD… ANYTHING!

PRINTED OR HAND WRITTEN BALLADS ARE DUE IN WEDNESDAY WEEK 7!

Remember that a ballad tells a story. There are many famous bush poets such as Banjo Patterson and Henry Lawson.

There are also many other Australian Country singers such as John Williamson, Ted Egan and Slim Dusty who write some great ballads.

GOOD LUCK! Please come and see me if you have trouble!
