Khan Academy

Khan Academy

Hi all,

It is great to see so many of you have logged in this afternoon to have a go at Khan Academy. This program is aimed at achieving mastery in different areas of maths. You have not achieved mastery until you have got all the answers right in an area.

This program is great as it also helps you if you are having trouble. If you need help, as for a hint (on the right hand side) or watch a video. This will help you understand, and from there you can master a concept.

Our aim for this week is to play around with the program and see what you can master. It will get more difficult as you need to master more difficult concepts.

Your aim this week is to master the 11 Addition and Subtraction Concepts. You should be able to find these, but if not, they can be searched on the left hand side after you click on practice.

The 11 concepts are (if you need to search for them) are:
1-digit addition
1-digit subtraction
2 and 3-digit subtraction
2-digit addition
4-digit addition with carrying
4-digit subtraction with borrowing
addition and subtraction word problems
addition with carrying
number line 1
representing numbers
subtraction with borrowing

You should aim to be proficient in all of these within a week. Most of them are pretty easy.

The Highwayman

The Highwayman- Homework

Last week we started to have a look at the poem “The Highwayman” by Alfred Noyes.

Your task is to find out what a Highwayman is. You are not searching for the poem, but finding out the role of a highwayman and the country/ies in which  they operated.

You can post your answers on here, or write them in your homework book. This is voluntary homework as we will be discussing it tomorrow.
