Active Citizenship- Time to Orango Tango!

Active Citizenship- Time to Orango Tango!

We would like to encourage ALL parents and students to jump onto our Active Citizenship fundraiser for 2013… CADBURY CHOCOLATES! No-one can say no to a Cadbury Chocolate, and as with 2012, they will be helping out a great cause! Last year we were able to raise in excess of $4000 to build much needed drinking wells in Kenya.

This year we are raising money to rescue orphaned orangutans in Borneo. Orangutan rescue units are working tirelessly in West Kalimantan, Borneo to save orangutans being trapped and killed on the fringes of local palm oil plantations, due to rapid local deforestation. Our fundraising will be in support of ‘Orango Tango’, who rescue and rehabilitate orangutans in the area. For every $1000 we raise we are able to rescue one orphan, and if we can raise $3000, we are able to offer care to that orangutan.

Two Minute Writing Challenge- Love

Two Minute Writing Challenge- Love

To help our writing fluency, students are required to write about a given stimulus for two minutes (or one minute). The only rule is you cannot stop writing. You are able to write about anything that comes into your mind when you see the photo (or video clip).

Students do not see the photo before their time begins, nor do they get any prepping about the stimulus.

Below are two examples, using the following image.

Love is the word. Paris is the place to be. Love fills the air. You may meet your soul mate with just a cup of tea. You can see the Eiffel Tower in the light. You have found love at first sight. You and him for ever in the sunlight. Love is in Paris. – Haylee

Love is weird. So many definitions to that strange word. Holding hands in Paris, the love city. They’re having French coffee. That is so romantic. I want to go to Paris and meet the woman of my dreams. There are plates for coffee to sit on. The table is see-through. I like see-through tables. – Ethan

Homework- What causes a volcanic eruption?

Homework- What causes a volcanic eruption?

Some students were at Wakakirri Practice during science today, or did not finish their work. This means that it needs to be done for homework. Remember: If you are involved in EXTRA activities (eg Wakakirri, Choir, Leadership) you are expected to catch up on missed work. If this is not done it may prevent your participation in these activities into the future.

It should be completed in your SCIENCE book by Thursday. The information is able to be found in this week’s fluency text.

Click Here for the list of questions. You will need to copy down any questions that are written in blue. You do not need to copy down anything in red. Questions 2 and 6 should be written as FULL SENTENCE ANSWERS.

Well done to everyone who did their homework and found out how much energy their house used. We have collected some very interesting information!

For those who have not finished it, please do this by Monday! We also need to know if you have solar panels attached to your house, solar powered water or gas.

Please comment below with anything interesting you discovered after our discussion today.

Please also comment with some great ideas of how we can promote our school to use less energy.
