Christmas Tree

Christmas Tree

Hi all,

I bought a small Christmas Tree for the classroom today. The tree is tiny, so don’t get your hopes up!

If anyone has a favourite decoration laying around the house, bring it in and we can add it to the tree. If anyone has a bigger tree, they can bring that in too!

WELCOME BACK

WELCOME BACK LA 19

I hope everyone had a fantastic holiday!!! I had a lovely break, heading down to Albany to see my family, play golf, ride the motorbike and to do lots of fishing! I would LOVE to hear what everyone has been up to. Please add a comment and tell me your holiday stories! If you have any photos, please bring them in and they can be put on the blog.

We have a super busy term lined up! Student Leader nominations are due by the end of Week 1, so please get those to me as soon as possible! Don’t leave it until the last minute!

We have THREE incursions about government coming up over the next month, so be prepared to learn lots!

There are plenty more things happening and we will discover these over the next few weeks.

One thing I would like everyone to do (if possible) is bring in a set of ear phones so that we can listen to stories from the computer. Most houses have a couple of sets floating around, or else they can be bought for a couple of dollars. If you are unable to get any, don’t stress as we will have some spares!

Please keep logging into the blog this term as most announcements and homework will be posted here.

SCIENCE DAY

SCIENCE DAY

On Wednesday all the Year 5/6 classes participated in a ‘Science Day’ where we rotated between classes doing different science experiments. We got to play with candles and work out how to get them to go out, make rockets, separate liquids and go balloon surfing.

Hopefully everyone had a good day and was able to learn something from it! Comment below telling everyone your favourite activities!!

Media Presentation- Maddison (Discussing American Beauty Pageants)

Too Much Too Young (“The Sunday Times”)

For our media presentations today, Maddison brought in a very interesting and topical newspaper article about Eden Wood, the star of the American Beauty Pageant shows.

We discussed why many people are against the shows, as well as why people may support them.

Some students suggested that these children were being made to do grown up ‘things’ and if they did not enjoy it then they should not be made to do it.

We also decided that if you do not agree with something that you do not attack the individuals in the show (such as Eden Wood). It is okay to give reasons why you do not like the show, but not to be nasty to the young children in them. It is not their fault they are doing it. This also goes for other young stars such as Bindi Irwin and Jack Vidgen.

What do you think of these Beauty Pageants? Do you agree or disagree? Why?

A visitor drops by…

A Visit from a Tortoise…

Today we were going about our normal Literacy work when a commotion came from Miss Deeks room. Mr Sim went to investigate and a Long Necked Tortoise (or turtle as some people say) was found in the garden, a long way from home.

We were able to bring it inside for a bit of a look and everyone was given the opportunity to CAREFULLY hold the tortoise to feel the shell and its skin. Sometimes sudden, unexpected, events happen that we can learn a lot from. This was one of those times. We did a quick investigation of its main features, did a search on the Internet and then quietly returned him to the lake where we think he came from.

The most important lesson we learnt was the importance to remain quiet, calm and careful around all living animals.

Check out the photos below. Click on a photo to enlarge it…
