Skoolbo

Skoolbo

Today we logged into a program called Skoolbo. It is a great new site to help children with reading and maths. Children are immersed in an incredible learning world and become highly motivated by the inbuilt rewards mechanisms designed to encourage healthy use and to maximise learning.

Click Here for the parent note associated with this program.

This program can be done on any computer, and there is also an App for Ipads etc.

This will form part of your students homework program. Students should aim to do ONE HOUR across a week (15 minutes per day).

Migrant Interview Assignment

Due Date: Monday August 25th

In class we have been investigating migration to Australia, and the push and pull factors that encourage someone to migrate. We have been learning to develop questions to frame a historical inquiry. This means we can ask questions to gather information that we need about the past.

In class you will be required to develop inquiry questions for interviewing a migrant to Australia. You will then need to interview one individual about their life before and after migrating to Australia. You will be required to submit a poster of your work along with a 2 minute oral presentation.

Click on the links below to find further information on the assignment and the assessment rubric:

Migrant Interview Assignment

Leave a comment with any questions you may have, or if you need further assistance.

Do not leave this assignment until the last minute. You need to plan a time (or a couple of times) to sit down with the person you are interviewing, as well as allow them time to find some photos. If you do not plan your assignment effectively, this will be no excuse for handing it in late.

Favourite Children’s Books

Favourite Children’s Books

What is your favourite children’s book?

Your task is to bring your favourite children’s book (picture book) to class. They should be picture books that are aimed at children from about 5-8 year olds (not novels or comics).

It is important that your book is FICTION and tells a story. It must have a beginning, a middle (climax of the story) and an ending (resolution).

You need to bring in the book by MONDAY (August 11). If you do not have a book you need to borrow one or get one out of the library at recess.

Here are some of my favourites! What are yours?

Family Tree Research Task

Family Tree Homework Task

Below is the homework task that will be set tomorrow. This task involves investigating your family tree and where each member of your family was born (either the country or state). If you are unable to complete any part of your family tree, please leave it blank.

The second part of the homework task is to investigate WHY members of your family migrated to another country (or state). You are to record WHY members of your family migrated to Australia (or another country) in your homework book.

We will then use this information for our next part of our lesson on the pull and push factors of migration.

THIS TASK IS DUE ON WEDNESDAY AUGUST 13.

CLICK HERE if you need another copy of the family tree (You will be given one in class).

If anyone finds out anything interesting about their family tree or can remember what a PUSH and PULL factor of migration is, please comment below.

MATHS FLUENCY

Maths Fluency homework is back!

Below are links to addition, subtraction, multiplication and division problems. All Maths Fluency homework will be posted on the blog and not handed out in class. This saves of printing at school and helps Harmony Primary School to be an energy efficient school.

You can either print out the sheets and write your answers on them, or you can just write the answers in your Homework Book. If you chose to just write the answers in your Homework Book, you will be required to rule up your Homework Book into 3cm columns and write the answers in these columns. Please have one page per operation.

Puzzle Problem Solving #2

Puzzle Problem Solving #2

This is our second problem solving task. You will have until Monday to comment with an answer below. You must also DRAW this shape into your homework book, and show the different triangles.

The shape below is a pentagon with each its vertex connected with every other.
The question is how many different triangles are hidden in this figure?

Puzzle Problem Solving

Puzzle Problem Solving

I found this puzzle on a website called puzzles.com

Since we are looking at problem solving, I am going to give you a week to try to solve this one, and leave a comment below (I would like everyone to do this as a part of your homework).

How many E’s, exactly the same as the small one on the top, of any possible size and orientation, can you find in the pattern?

The answer might surprise you. Remember that the E’s can be any size, and may be upside down or back to front. The ‘middle’ of the E must be shorter than the top and bottom.

It may help to print off the picture, but you must comment below.

Maths Revision- Term 2

Maths Revision- Term 2

On Tuesday we will be having a test to cover a range of the ‘number’ concepts that we have been learning this year.

This will be an important test, and I have attached some homework so that you are prepared. I have included one example of each area that may be covered in the test. There will also be some word problems.

If you can answer each of these questions, you are ready!

Please have this completed in your homework book by Tuesday, when we will go through it as a class. If you need help with anything, please let me know.

Click on the picture below so that you are able to see it clearly.
