Water Day

Water Day 2012

On Friday Harmony Primary School participated in a whole school Water Incursion Day. We got to be a part of some fantastic sessions run by Ribbons of Blue, Scitech, The Water Corporation and Science Alive!

We learnt a lot about the properties of water, its uses and why it is important to conserve it. We found out that 97% of the World’s water is salty. This means that only 3% of all the water on Earth is fresh water however most of this water is either frozen or underground. Only 0.01% of the water on Earth is easily accessible by humans. This means we NEED to look after all our water!

Here are some photos from the day. Feel free to leave comments.

Weather Watch Recount- Callum

Weather Watch Recount

Below is Callum’s recount of Angela Tsun’s visit to Harmony Primary as a part of the Weather Watch team!

Today, 2/3/2012, the Channel 9 news helicopter came to our school.  They landed on the oval at 11:00am to meet the Year 6 students who will be doing the junior weather on Channel 9. I was excited to see the helicopter land on the oval.

The Year 6 students and teachers went to the staffroom and met the Channel 9 weather team. Angela Tsun is the Channel 9 weather presenter who spoke to us about the weather and how to record the temperature and rain. We met Stefan who is the helicopter pilot and Glenn the cameraman.

Angela showed us a DVD about behind the scenes of Channel 9. The most interesting part was the control room because it had loads of buttons. Before she left she gave us a signed photo, a pencil case, a ruler, an eraser, a sharpener, a pencil and a notepad each.

We all left the staffroom to the oval where the cameraman filmed a promotion of Angela and the Year 6 students that will appear on the weather segment. Then they all flew away in the helicopter to another school. I really enjoyed the incursion!- Callum

Channel 9 Weather Watch comes to Harmony

Angela Tsun and the Weather Watch team visit Harmony PS

On Friday we were lucky enough to host Angela Tsun from the Channel 9 Weather as well as her cameraman Glenn and helicopter pilot Stefan.

As well as learning about the weather, we also got to see a helicopter up close and see behind the scenes of how the weather is presented to us each evening.

Here are some photos from the day. Please feel free to comment!

Turn on the Tap- Samaritan’s Purse

The importance of water…

Today we watched two videos that show the importance of water in developing countries, and how we can make a difference to their lives.

We also discussed how important water was to our everyday lives, and that we quite often take it for granted.

We watched these two videos. Please leave a comment about what you were able to get out of today’s lesson.
