CLASS ELECTION

CLASS ELECTION

We are in the middle of a class election campaign in which we are putting our Government and voting knowledge to use.

We have FOUR parties, with the leaders being Niamh, Nikita, Bree and Maitane.

After the election, the winner will take the class in a ONE HOUR activity of their choice.

Good luck to everyone! I will put any material on the blog that I am sent!

Here is a video sent in by The Sporty Smarties with their leader Niamh.

NEWSPAPER JOURNALIST

NEWSPAPER INTERVIEWS

Today we thought up some general questions as a class that we could ask during an interview. These are listed below.

Your task over the next week is to find someone to interview, and to gain as much information as you can.

Click on the following link to get further information on what to do for the interview. You will get a copy of this in class over the next couple of days.

NEWSPAPER JOURNALIST

GENERAL QUESTIONS TO ASK

What happened in the ‘event’?

Who else was there or involved?

How did you feel during and after the event?

What was the most interesting part of the event?

What caused it to happen?

When did it happen?

Where did this event happen?

Why did this event happen?

REMEMBER: You need to come up with some of your own questions as soon as you know what the story is about. AIM FOR 15 QUESTIONS MINIMUM!

YOU WILL NEED YOUR QUESTIONS IN CLASS ON WEDNESDAY AUGUST 24!

Homework Interview

NEWSPAPER INTERVIEWS

Over the next few days we are going to be learning about how to conduct an interview to produce a newspaper article.

You are going to take these skills home and interview a significant ADULT in your life about a story from when they were younger. This person could be a grandparent, family friend or parent. The story may be about them or an event they may have witnessed or been a part of.

Your task is to think of someone you could interview and ask them for permission. You will also need to find a time to interview them sometime next week or on the following weekend. You can also explain that you would like to interview them about a story from their past so that they have time to think! We all know how hard it is to think of a good story on the spot!

This will be important as we will be writing newspaper articles about it in class! GOOD LUCK!

Tell us below who you are going to interview, and why…

Media Presentation- Maddison (Discussing American Beauty Pageants)

Too Much Too Young (“The Sunday Times”)

For our media presentations today, Maddison brought in a very interesting and topical newspaper article about Eden Wood, the star of the American Beauty Pageant shows.

We discussed why many people are against the shows, as well as why people may support them.

Some students suggested that these children were being made to do grown up ‘things’ and if they did not enjoy it then they should not be made to do it.

We also decided that if you do not agree with something that you do not attack the individuals in the show (such as Eden Wood). It is okay to give reasons why you do not like the show, but not to be nasty to the young children in them. It is not their fault they are doing it. This also goes for other young stars such as Bindi Irwin and Jack Vidgen.

What do you think of these Beauty Pageants? Do you agree or disagree? Why?

Media Presentations- Niamh

      Media Presentations

We have begun our daily media presentations in class.

We have been practicing looking at the audience, speaking in a loud clear voice and making our voice as interesting as possible.

Today Niamh presented an article about the upcoming week of MasterChef. She got the newspaper article from “The Sunday Times” on 31-7-2011.

Throughout the term everyone will be presenting on three occassions and hopefully some will make it up onto the blog.

Click the link below to see what she had to say. (Please be patient as it may take a few minutes to load)

Newspapers of the World

During the first part of Term 3 we will be looking at features of newspapers. To get our mind thinking about this, I want you to add comments to this blog, listing as many different newspapers as you can.

They can be local papers such as the Cockburn Gazette, state newspapers such as The West Australian or national newspapers such as The Australian. You may even know the names of other newspapers around the world.

If you have not read a newspaper before, see if you can have a read of one before Tuesday. You can even cut out your favourite or most interesting article and bring it in to share with me or the class.

Happy searching!
