Media Presentation- Maddison (Discussing American Beauty Pageants)

Too Much Too Young (“The Sunday Times”)

For our media presentations today, Maddison brought in a very interesting and topical newspaper article about Eden Wood, the star of the American Beauty Pageant shows.

We discussed why many people are against the shows, as well as why people may support them.

Some students suggested that these children were being made to do grown up ‘things’ and if they did not enjoy it then they should not be made to do it.

We also decided that if you do not agree with something that you do not attack the individuals in the show (such as Eden Wood). It is okay to give reasons why you do not like the show, but not to be nasty to the young children in them. It is not their fault they are doing it. This also goes for other young stars such as Bindi Irwin and Jack Vidgen.

What do you think of these Beauty Pageants? Do you agree or disagree? Why?

  1. I have no problem with the pageants itself. My daughter just turned 6 and has been cheering for a couple years.
And it’s pretty much the same. They dress up in their uniforms and put makeup on for competitions.
It’s when you see the children don’t want to! And the parent pushes them, that makes it disappointing.

  2. Thanks for your response Casie. I liked reading your response and would like to hear what others have to say. Do you agree with Casie?

  3. I think that this is silly but even though they want to dress up and put make-up on it is fine.
When I was a little girl I put make-up on and dressed up but not like these little girls do on toddlers and tiaras.
